The first outing of the 2022/23 Donegal ETB Society season teed off in Dunfanaghy Golf Club in glorious weather conditions.
Captain Cathal McGee struck the first ball and no doubt sent it straight down the middle.
A healthy turn out of 27 players made the trip and some excellent scores were recorded, with some new faces and experienced campaigners making their way into the prizes.
Bolting away quick out of the starting gates was society stalwart Éanna Ó Mainín who recorded an excellent score of 40 points which included a fantastic 23pts on his inward nine. A more recent member to our ranks was very unlucky to be pipped into second on a break of tie. Ciaran Ferry from Coláiste Ailigh hit it very steady around his home track to finish runner-up on the day.
In third place it was wonderful to see long-time member Brian McDermott, at 86 years young no less, rolling back the years with a brilliant 38 point total, well played Brian. Leo Gallagher from the Abbey Vocational School collected the fourth place prize, also on 38pts, beaten on a break of tie. The retired staff prize went to Seamus Clerkin on 35pts while Aidan Guthrie from the Letterkenny Training Centre continues to improve as he collected the Category IV+ prize with 34pts.
The society season continues this coming weekend in Letterkenny Golf Club.
