Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly said it was ‘absolutely shocking’ the local authority did follow through on a commitment given to him in February about installing larger stormwater pipes at the location.
Following last night’s torrential rain, major damage was caused to the main Letterkenny to Glenties at Glenswilly school.
He said pipes installed at the location previously were not big enough to cope with the amount of water coming off the mountain.
“I was given a commitment that this would be addressed the last time this happened and yet still nothing has been done,” Cllr Kelly said.
“I had executives of Donegal County Council meet me on site looking at this major issue in February, with a commitment given to me.”
He added that the damage was preventable and the issue was happening far too often.
“I have been on to the council again this morning and they’re out there now and said they will put in a larger pipe this time,” he added.
“I will keep the pressure on, this is simply not good enough. I can assure the people of Glenswilly and all using this road that I will leave no stone unturned this coming week to have a permanent solution implemented as a matter of urgency.”
