Ronan Curtis scored twice last night but it wasn’t enough for his Portsmouth side to avoid defeat to League Two side Newport County in the EFL Cup.
The St Johnston man opened the scoring for the visitors in Wales as Tom Lowery played a through ball and Curtis latched on to the pass, sprinting clear before finishing past Joe Day, but Newport quickly equalised through Will Evans on 14 minutes.
The Republic of Ireland International doubled got his second on the night as a cross fell to him in the box, before he smashed home for his third goal in two games in the competition.
Aaron Wildig levelled just after half-time and James Waite gave Newport the win with 15 minutes to go as Portsmouth were knocked out by their lower league opponents.
Curtis has four goals in all competitions so far this season, with a goal against Cambridge United earlier this month in a 4-1 win in League One.
