Mona McSharry finished in seventh place at the final of the 50m breaststroke at the European Aquatics Championships.
The Grange native finished in 31.15 in Rome, with Lithuania’s Ruta Meilutyte taking gold and the current world record holder Benedetta Pilato winning silver.
McSharry, a Marlins Swimming Club in Ballyshannon member, was initially disappointed on Saturday after finishing fifth in the final of the 100m breaststroke, her preferred event, but was proud to make the final in all three events following on from her 7th in the 200m final on Monday.
Speaking after the final to RTÉ, McSharry said: ” I’m feeling great. It’s been a mixed bag of emotions, some really good races but ultimately didn’t reach the goals I wanted to reach but it’s a great learning experience.
“All in all it’s been really enjoyable, I think that progression from semi-finals to finals is what’s most important to me.
“I think making the three finals itself is a really great achievement, I’ve never done that before at a Senior Championships so that’s something to be proud of.”
