Mona McSharry was third fastest overall in the semi-finals as she qualified for the 100m breaststroke final at the European Aquatics Championships in Rome.
The Marlins Swimming Club in Ballyshannon graduate was second in her heat behind Italian swimmer Benedetta Pilato as she finished in 1:06.44, just ahead of Sweden’s Sophie Hansson.

McSharry told RTÉ afterwards: “It feels like my old self this afternoon which is nice, it’s definitely nice to be back down to a 1:06.
“I’m very happy with that time, it’s basically on my PB.”
The Grange, Co. Sligo native will be fighting for a medal in the final of the event today, which is scheduled for 5.28pm.
