Mona McSharry finished in fifth place in the 100m breaststroke at the European Aquatics Championships in Rome.
The Marlins Swimming Club, Ballyshannon graduate finished in a 1:07.14, less than a second off third place.
McSharry, from Grange, Co. Sligo, didn’t reach the heights of her semi-final time, which would have been enough for a bronze medal.
Italian duo Benedetta Pilato and Lisa Angiolini were 1st and 2nd respectively, with Ruta Meilutyte finishing third and her fellow Lithuanian athlete Kotryna Teterevkova, in fourth.
