The Pet Sitters annual ‘Nose of Tralee’ competition is gearing up and Donegal’s entrant has been confirmed as Bailey the miniature Jack Russell.
Judges narrowed down the entries from 1500, down to 32, with one set to represent each county in Ireland.
Bailey is just a year and a half old and is living in Stranorlar with owner Ciara, who is hopeful he will be crowned 2022’s Nose of Tralee winner.
Ciara told Donegal Daily: “We’re absolutely delighted that he’s representing Donegal.
“He is a friendly, affectionate and caring little guy with the cutest nose and best ears and now the whole country can see it!”
On the website, Ciara made her case on why she thinks her beloved pet is worthy of winning: “Bailey would make a great nose of Tralee because he is extremely cute and caring and has the best nose (and ears) in Ireland.
“He puts his nose to great use everyday ensuring that the dinner we are cooking is adequate and will confirm this with a taste test. He will smell our intruders in the garden and especially spiders in the house (to my joy).
“His nose comes in useful sometimes as he can fit it inside a tub of ice cream and he uses it to borrow his way under the duvet of a made bed!”
This year’s Nose of Tralee contestants include 28 dogs, three cats, and even a chicken from Fermanagh!
