Buncrana native Emma Doherty has been nominated for the Player of the month for June/July.
The Sligo Rovers forward has scored four goals in six games over the two months for the Bit O’Red, including her two goals on Saturday night in a 3-2 win over league leaders Shelbourne, which was live on TG4.
Doherty also scored her first goal of June in a 1-0 win over second place Wexford Youths, highlighting the importance of her goals in big games.
It’s three goals in two games for Doherty and nine in 17 for the 18-year-old in her debut season in the Women’s National League, having signed from the Donegal Women’s League.
Also nominated for the award are: Jessie Stapleton (Shelbourne), Lynsey McKey (Galway), Nicola Sinnott (Wexford Youths), Rachael Kelly (Bohemians) and Roisin Molloy (Athlone Town).
Sligo Rovers have a heavy Donegal representation, including fellow Buncrana woman Paula McGrory, new signing Amy Boyle Carr from Glenties, Greencastle native Gemma McGuinness, Alana Doherty from Clonmany, and Ballybofey’s Caoimhe Brennan.
And the side are in action again this weekend as they travel to Bohemians in the quarter-final of the FAI Cup on Saturday 6th August.
Sligo moved to within five points of Saturday’s cup opponents with the win over Shelbourne, while also having a game in hand over the Dublin side.
