Some say young sports people these days just aren’t as committed as they used to be.
However, two dedicated Malin GAA Minor players turned that notion on its head this week.
Ryan and Thomas McGeoghegan have been on a well-earned holiday with their family in County Kerry since last weekend.
On Monday evening, they attended the All Ireland Champions homecoming and got to rub shoulders with RTE broadcaster Marty Morrissey.
On Wednesday, however, they jumped into the car with dad, Kevin, and undertook a gruelling round trip of over 764km to travel to Laghey and line out for Malin against Naomh Brid in the minor championship.
And the long trip was worth it as the lads got a well earned 5-09 to 1-16 win in their second championship outing.
Not affected by the jetlag, Ryan hit 0-5 and Thomas made an excellent contribution as a second half substitute.
Right after the final whistle, the lads hopped back in the car and returned to their accommodation in Killarney where they arrived at the unholy hour of 2am.
“Now, that’s what we call doing it for the love of the club,” a Malin GAA spokesperson said.
“Luckily, the game wasn’t in Connolly Park (Malin)….they wouldn’t have got home until 3.30am. Well done lads!”
