Donegal Ladies footballer Amy Boyle Carr has returned to football having signed for Sligo Rovers until the end of the season.
The Glenties native makes her footballing return for the first time since 2019 having decided to step away to commit to Donegal GAA.
The 21-year-old plays for her club Naomh Conaill, and was a regular starter for Maxi Curran’s senior side who made the Division 1 league final, the Ulster final, and the All-Ireland semi-final in 2022.
But with the GAA season coming to a close for the year, the active Boyle Carr was eager to make her return to the 11-a-side action.
Having played with Lagan Harps and Sion Swifts in her teenage years, she picked up an Irish cap in 2018 at the age of just 17, having played for the Republic of Ireland at underage levels.
Amy told Sligo Rovers media: “Steve had been in touch at the start of the year, but I’d already committed to Donegal. I said I’d come down on Monday and see how I got on. I enjoyed it.
“It’s brilliant, it’s a great opportunity to get. I said I’d sign and see how it goes. It will keep me fit.
“It’s been a while since I played (football). I wasn’t putting too much pressure on myself.
“The girls are great, it helped that I knew some of them. I was chatting to them and they were telling me about the backing they get from the club and the support so it’s fantastic. It will only push everyone on.”
Boyle Carr joins fellow Donegal players Emma Doherty, Gemma McGuinness, Paula McGrory, Alana Doherty and Caoimhe Brennan at the Bit O’Red.
Sligo Rovers face Champions and league leaders Shelbourne on Saturday at the Showgrounds, with the game being shown live on TG4, coverage beginning at 6:30pm.
