There have been calls for more cameras and security patrols at local neighbourhood parks in Letterkenny.
Independent Cllr Kevin Bradley told the Letterkenny-Milford MD this week that nighttime drinking and anti-social behaviour are causing issues in smaller parks in the town. Children are then entering their local greens in the morning to find broken bottles, Cllr Bradley told the council.
While there is CCTV in Bernard McGlinchey Town Park and Ballymacool Park, Cllr Bradley said that areas in Glencar and Glenard Park need security measures too. He suggested that a security firm could be hired to patrol the areas at night, and if there is anti-social behaviour, they can ask people to leave.
“Somebody should look into this as a matter of urgency,” Cllr Bradley said.
In response, the council said that the installation of CCTV systems requires Privacy Impact Assessments and comes at a significant infrastructural cost.
