John Kelly was in action in the early hours of last night at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA.
The St Johnston native was representing Ireland after getting a late call-up following injuries and withdrawals in the Shot Put competition.
The Finn Valley athlete will have been left disappointed with his performance on the day as he threw a best of 17.92m which left him 15th in his group and out of a qualification spot.
Kelly was competing at the highest level however and would have needed to throw a personal best and an Irish record to qualify for the final, such was the standard of competition.
But it was still an incredible achievement for the Donegal man to represent his country having had such a brilliant year so far.
Kelly broke the Irish national record earlier this month at the Cork City Sports event with a throw of 20.16m.
Kelly smashed his own personal best with the throw which previously was a 19.57 he had in June.
Meanwhile, former Magh Ene College Bundoran student Christopher O’Donnell from Grange, Co. Sligo, was a member of the Irish mixed relay team who finished in eighth place.
