A Donegal native has successfully completed his SEVENTH ‘Escape from Alcatraz’ triathlon in San Francisco in honour of his late mother.
On June 5, Mountcharles native Kevin Brennan, did the gruelling event especially for his mum Carmel who passed away in 2019.
It is a three event race including a 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island across San Francisco Bay; a hilly 20 mile bike ride and an 8 mile run.
This year there were over 1,300 competitors at the start line and Kevin finished in the top quarter of men in his age group 46-50.
In dedicating this race to his mum (pictured above), Kevin also raised a fantastic €5,230 for Solace Donegal Cancer Support centre in Donegal town.
And, he was delighted to present a cheque personally to Sr. Magdalene and her support team in recognition of their great support for his mum.
Kindhearted Kevin made the long journey across the Atlantic for a ‘long weekend’ so he could attend the presentation.
The centre offers emotional support and practical help for people who have been diagnosed with cancer, or any life threatening illness.
This support is also for families, friends, for caregivers and the bereaved.
Included in the photo are Kevin’s brother, Peter, sister Keara, niece Daisy, nephew Finn and his dad Peter Snr.
