Householders are being warned to be on the lookout for bogus workmen and callers after a woman in Inishowen was targeted.
Gardaí in Moville received a report from the pensioner after three men arrived at her home on July 5th at 12.30pm and started to cut trees and carry out landscaping work without her permission.
Initially, they demanded €2,000 in order to complete the work.
However, an alert neighbour stepped in to assist her and the men then explained that they had the incorrect address, but still requested €200 for the work carried out.
No money was paid to them and they left the area in a UK registered white van.
“Don’t engage with them and do not open the door unless you’re sure of their identity,” a garda spokesperson said.
“Get a chain lock installed. These people can be quite intimidating as they arrive in numbers and groups. Contact Gardai immediately like this lady did.”
Anyone living close to an elderly or vulnerable person living alone is also urged to keep an eye on suspicious vehicles arriving.
