Fintan Dewhirst has qualified for the final of the 400m hurdles at the European Under-18 Athletic Championships in Israel.
The Tír Chonaill AC athlete was 4th in his heat, and fifth fastest overall, as he qualified for the final with a time of 52.62s as the fastest of the 4th placed finishers.
The St Columbas Comprehensive Glenties Student was 4th behind Finland’s Antti Sainio who finished in 51.43s. Hungarian Gergó Takács was second in 52.09s, while Tijm Oostermon from the Netherlandswas third with a time of 52.27s.
Dewhirst was second in his quarter-final heat yesterday, again behind the Finnish athlete, but he was also second fastest overall as he reached the semi-finals with a new PB of 52.58s.
Fintan will now return for his third outing of the week in tomorrow’s final which is set for 4.30pm (Irish time).
