The Letterkenny Shotokan Karate Club held their first Summer Camp this weekend in The Letterkenny Community Centre and Aura Leisure Centre.
The Camp kicked off their first day in the Community Centre, on Friday the 1st of July, where all students from beginner to black belt took part in Kata and Kumite training. This extra training was the final push to prepare the students for their upcoming Competition and Grading which were being held over the following two days.
On Saturday the 2nd of July, students from White to Black belts, took part in an Individual Kata competition, as well as a Team Kata event, which also took place in The Letterkenny Community Centre.
On Sunday the 3rd of July the Camp finished off with a Grading, which was held in the Aura Leisure Centre, where students from White to Brown Belts were awarded their next Grade.
The following results are from Saturday’s Competition.
White Belts: 1st – Teresa Gallagher, 2nd – Grace Gallagher, 3rd – Diya Sarun.
Orange Belts: 1st – Sadheesh Kumar, 2nd – Michael Harvey, 3rd – Matthew Gallier.
Red Belts: 1st – Noah Callaghan, 2nd – Chloe Henderson.
Yellow – Green Belts: 1st – Taylor Hughes, 2nd – Ivanna Benny, 3rd – Benny Jose.
Purple-Brown Belts: 1st – Adelle Mc Ateer, 2nd – Anika Benny, 3rd – Peter Ogle.
Black Belts: 1st – Mary O’Neil, 2nd – Andreii Barabash.
Team Kata: 1st – The Callaghans, 2nd – Snow White, 3rd – Letterkenny.
Medals were awarded to four students who displayed best spirit and excellent technique. Best spirit awards went to Teresa Gallagher and Sadheesh Kumar and awards for best technique went to Ivanna Benny and Taylor Hughes.
The students that graded on their final day of camp had been training hard over the last few months as well as during the camp. Students from White Belt to Brown Belt took part in this test, displaying skills learned in order to obtain their next belt
The following students who were successful and awarded their next belt after a fantastic weekend of Camp were:
9th kyu – Orange belt: Grace Gallagher, Teresa Gallagher, Becky Hughes and Diya Sarun.
8th kyu – Red belt: Lily Gallier, Matthew Gallier, Joshua Mc Hugh, Dominick Mc Hugh, Dilan O’Boyle and Peter O’Boyle
7th kyu – Yellow belt: Chloe Henderson.
6th kyu – Green belt: Chantelle Henderson
5th kyu – Purple belt: Ivana Benny, Benny Jose and Taylor Hughes.
3rd kyu – Brown Belt: Adelle Mc Ateer
2nd kyu – Brown White Belt: Anika Benny, Georgia Martin and Rishon Sojan.
1st kyu – Brown 2 White Stripes Belt: Peter Ogle
The Letterkenny Shotokan Karate Club Summer Training will take place Mondays 7-8pm in The Letterkenny Community Centre, Wednesdays 7pm -8pm The Letterkenny Community Centre and Saturdays Letterkenny Community Centre 1-2pm.
A Kumite Development Class will take place on Sunday 7th August 12-2pm in the Aura Leisure Centre
The next Club Grading will take place in December 2022 for Beginner to Brown Belts and the next Black Belt Grading will take place in January 2023.
