The Duffy siblings took gold for Rosses AC at the National Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Tullamore at the weekend for Turbo Javelin.
Robyn, partnered with Enya Logue, retained their title after winning last year. The girls competed in the under 9 category last year and this year their combined throw was almost enough to win the next age group up. The pair were joined on the podium by another Rosses AC team, Katelyn O’Donnell and Rosha Boyle.
Both Robyn and Enya achieved personal bests on Saturday with Enya throwing 14.81m and Robyn a massive 19.72m. Robyn has been on a massive winning streak this year, winning at county level, provincial level and topping it off with another national gold.
This year, Eli was a lone ranger with no partner as he is now in the Under 12 category. Eli competed last year to achieve silver but had the biggest throw of the day with an impressive 26m throw.
Eli put in a massive effort all year giving full commitment to his sport and he reaped the rewards on Saturday to achieve another personal best with a huge throw of 30.20m.
This year also seen Eli win at county level, provincial level and now national. This is his last year competing in the turbo javelin but he plans to start training straight away for the full size javelin in preparation for next seasons competitions.
Both young athletes put in a huge effort and countless hours of training in the back garden with their parents although the throws are getting so big that the back garden is no longer big enough!
Robyn and Eli are heavily involved in GAA and karate so there will be no rest for these two over the summer months.
