Finn Valley AC pair Mark English and Brendan Boyce have been confirmed to represent Ireland at the World Championships in Oregon this month.

English, fresh off the back of winning an eighth National Championship last weekend in Santry, will compete in the 800m.

English won the 800m title with a time of 1:48.46, ahead of Kildare AC athlete John Fitzsimons who crossed the line in 1:49.10.

But the Letterkenny man will want to improve on that time when he competes at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Having competed at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, English was 8th fastest overall in the semi-final with a time of 1:45.55 but was 5th in his heat and a result, didn’t qualify for the final.

Meanwhile, Brendan Boyce is competing at his third World Championships as he tackles the 35km walk for the first time at the event.

Boyce was 6th in the 50km in Doha, Qatar in 2019, but the IAAF have since scrapped what was the Milford man’s preferred race distance.

The Championships begin two weeks today, running from the 15th July-24th July.
