Emma Doherty scored the only goal of the game as her Sligo Rovers side upset Wexford to win at the Showgrounds in the Women’s National League.
The Buncrana woman scored in the 67th minute after the Wexford goalkeeper Maeve Williams cleared the ball but Doherty intercepted her opponent and shot from 35 yards before Williams could get back into her goal.

The newcomers were looking to hold on to what would be a massive win against the title hunting side, but looked like they had ruined their chance after a handball in the box saw Wexford awarded a penalty.
But Sligo ‘keeper Amy Mahon saved the spot kick in the 94th minute as Sligo hung on for a massive three points.
It’s Doherty’s 6th goal of the season as she has enjoyed a great debut season in the Women’s National League and also scored twice on her Republic of Ireland under-19 debut.
