The Letterkenny Shotokan Karate Club’s barefoot walk over ‘ruff’ ground has raised a fantastic €3,000 for the Irish Guide Dogs Association.
Sensei John Wilkie and club members kicked off their shoes on Saturday to walk a mile around the Aura Leisure Centre track. They were joined by two canine companions, Hope and Honey, who are puppies in training. The nine-month-old puppies are part of the first litter of guide dog puppies to be born in Donegal.
Funds raised from the barefoot walk will support the training of puppies like Hope and Honey as they prepare for life-changing jobs as guide dogs or assistance dogs.

Barefoot Walk
The karate club is also hosting a raffle alongside the sponsored walk, with the draw set to take place on Wesnesday evening at 8pm in the Aura Leisure Centre. Top prize is 500 litres of home heating oil, or win vouchers for Brian McCormick Sports, Sweeney Electrical, McCallion Jewellers, Early Bird Cleaning or a meal for two! The cheque presentation will also take place on Wednesday.
John and the club would like to say thank you to all the sponsors and everyone who donated to this special event.
