Funding of €23m has been designated for healthcare projects in Donegal this year under the Health Service Executive’s Capital Plan.
The plan, announced today, outlines the strategic priorities for the Health Investment Programme.
The largest amount has been allocated to the extension of the Sheil Hospital in Ballyshannon.

Commenting on the announcement, Minister Charlie McConalogue said “I welcome the announcement of €23m for Donegal’s healthcare projects right throughout the County for 2022. Continued investment in our health care is essential and this funding is being directed at primary health care services and community services. Included in the funding for 2022 is €12m for an 80 bed unit to replace the Shiel and the Rock in Ballyshannon, €1.8m for the refurbishment of Carndonagh Community Hospital, €1.33m for refurbishment of Buncrana CNU, €1.4m for the new Newtowncunnigham Primary Care Centre and supports for St Joseph’s Hospital and LUH.”
