Ryan Griffin finished tied for 6th place at the Flogas Irish Men’s Amateur Open Championship in tough conditions at The Island.
The Ballybofey & Stranorlar golfer was tied for second after the first day of the competition, scoring two under par on the Corgallis course in Donabate.
With conditions worsening thanks to an unrelenting wind, Griffin was tied for first after day two on par, but scoring two over was an accomplishment on a day where none of the 128 golfers could match par.
Griffins eagle on the 18th was vital to stay tied in the lead.
With fog delaying the third round, the NUI Maynooth student dropped a shot on sole leader Robert Moran, and was tied with eventual winner Colm Campbell from Warrenpoint Golf Club.
A disappointing final day for Griffin saw him finish +6 for the day and +7 for the tournament, giving him a tie for 6th place.
Meanwhile, Cian Harkin of Letterkenny Golf Club finished on three under on the final day, the best outright score of the day, which catapulted him up to T18 on +10.
Padraig O Dochartaigh of Gweedore Golf Club finished T49 on +21.
