The emergency department at Letterkenny University Hospital has Ireland’s second shortest average wait time, according to new figures.
Patients at LUH wait on average 5.9 hours from registration to admission. The national average across Irish hospitals is almost 13 hours.
The figures from the HSE show that wait times have worsened in LUH in recent years.
In 2020, the average delay at Letterkenny’s ED was 4.1 hours, which increased to 5.1 in 2021 and is now 5.9 hours in 2022.
The data, provided to Sinn Féin health spokesman David Cullinane, revealed that Tallaght University Hospital has the longest waits in the country at an average of 24.5 hours.
