The Bealtaine Festival, Ireland’s national celebration of the arts and creativity as we age, will be celebrated throughout the month of May in Donegal.
Age & Opportunity’s Bealtaine 2022 festival, will celebrate In(ter)dependence as its theme and a welcome return to live in-person events.
The festival, now in its 25th Year, will be officially launched on Sunday 1st May at 5pm by Councillor Jack Murray, Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council at the Regional Cultural Centre (RCC).
And following the official launch the Donegal Bealtaine festival will be kicked off at 6pm with a special free concert featuring Irish country music legend Brendan Quinn & Band and supported by Americana songsmith Dean Maywood. The concert will be streamed live on www.regionalculturalcentre.com to mark the beginning of the month-long festivities.

When speaking about Bealtaine, festival co-ordinator Ciara Cunnane said “We are delighted to be able to welcome back everyone to live in-person events. Donegal County Council’s Cultural Division have planned various events throughout the month ranging from crafts, cookery, music, theatre, talks and walks! ‘.
RTE’s Carole Coleman talks about her book ‘News from Under a Coat Stand’, Bundoran Library on Wed. 11th May at 6.30pm and Central Library, Letterkenny on Tues 17th May at 7pm.
Featured events planned include The Eat Well To Live Well cookery demo with Pauline Sugrue, author visits from RTE’s Carole Coleman & Sally Hanan, The National Archives of Ireland 1921 Treaty Exhibition at Donegal County Museum and theatre featuring Conal Gallen in ‘My Wife, Her Cat and Other Stuff’ to name but a few!
My Wife, her cat…: A New play featuring actor & comic Conal Gallen, written by Brian Walsh and directed by Kieran Quinn, RCC, Letterkenny on Thursday 19th May at 7pm.
