Donegal now has Ireland’s second lowest Covid-19 incidence rate, according to new figures.

The 14 day incidence rate for the county, as of today, is 1466.8 per 100,000.

Locally, six of Donegal’s seven local electoral areas have below average rates.

Letterkenny is the only district with a higher than average rate. There have been 694 new cases confirmed in the Letterkenny LEA in the past two weeks up to Monday – up from 595 in the previous fortnight. The incidence rate is now 2329.6 per 100,000.

The national average rate, as of Monday, was 1,871.1 per 100,000.

Carndonagh and Buncrana have Ireland’s lowest and second-lowest Covid-19 rates, respectively. The 14-day rate in Buncrana is now 1023.9 per 100,000, with 220 new cases. The Carndonagh rate is 960.9 per 100,000, with 163 new cases confirmed.

The latest local figures come at a time when PCR tests are no longer required for those under 55 years of age or those aged over 55 who are fully boosted. Only those aged 55 or older who do not have a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose, and people who are considered high-risk are advised to get a test if symptomatic.

Elsewhere in Donegal, the Milford area, which includes Fanad, Ramelton, Rathmullan and Kilmacrennan recorded 245 new cases of Covid-19 – up from 193 in the previous two weeks.

In Lifford-Stranorlar, 380 new cases were confirmed in the past two weeks.

The rate in Glenties is up to 1271 per 100,000, where 304 new cases were detected.

The Donegal LEA recorded 456 new cases in the past fortnight, up from 327 in the previous period.
