Caolan McFadden of Loreto Community School Milford helped his mixed intermediate relay team come second at the SIAB Cross Country Internationals in Wales on Saturday.
The Cranford AC athlete ran the third leg for the 4×1500 team after Oscar Legge (St Andrew’s College, Dublin) and Caoimhe Kilmurray (Loreto Mullingar), while Poppy Hastings (Rainey Endowed School, Magherafelt) brought the Mixed Relay silver medal home, as they finished 26 seconds behind gold medalists England.
The Ireland team finished in 20 minutes and 25 seconds, five and seven seconds ahead of Scotland and Wales respectively.
The tough course of inclines and steep pathways at Pembrey Country Park in Southern Wales was made firm with the bright sun and warming spring temperatures, with athletes and spectators enjoying the weather.
McFadden is just off the back of winning gold in the boys under-16 1500m and 800m last weekend at the National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone.
