Errigal College past student Adam Doherty was formally presented with his Optum Ireland Healthcare Scholarship on Thursday.
Accompanying Adam at the ceremony in Rock Hill House were his parents, Errigal College principal Mr. Danny McFadden, Optum and a host of representatives from LYIT, soon to be the Atlantic Technological University.
This scholarship aims to promote diversity in higher education. The scholarship targets students who have applied for specific programmes in Science, Technology and Nursing & Health.
Adam is currently studying Applied Computing in LYIT.
Speaking about his scholarship, Adam remarked, “It’s great to have such a supportive scholarship offered by a local multinational company – it’s made the transition from secondary to third-level education a very smooth one for me. The opportunities in and around Letterkenny in Computing and Healthcare/FinTech are very exciting at the moment.”
Errigal College principal, Mr. Danny McFadden, thanked all involved including, LYIT, Optum, Adam’s parents and his teachers in Errigal College over the years.
“Today is the culmination of a lot of hard work by Adam and his support network – we are thrilled for Adam and I would also like to thank Optum directly for these very generous scholarships which go some way in assisting students financially and recognising their academic achievements at the same time. A special thanks to LYIT also who continue to support our students in such a holistic way.”
