A charity ascent of Donegal’s highest mountain will take place at noon today in aid of two worthy causes.
‘Packie’s Climb in Memory of Maura’ will start on Errigal at 12 noon.
The majority of the funds raised will go directly to the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMDA), with the remained for Hally Mor in Dungloe.
For those who can’t make it today, donations can be made via the event’s idonate page up until April 22nd.
The Parochial Hall, or the Big Hall, as it was more affectionately known, and now known as An Halla Mor, served the people of Dungloe and surrounding areas for the most part of the 20th century.
Built in 1913 (approx) it has been a parish and community venue for various social, cultural, recreational and historical events.
Recently, the hall has fallen into disrepair, in particular the heating system and floor and are in serious need of refurbishment/replacement.
A few locals have come together to try and revamp the hall and bring it up to an acceptable standard.
It is hoped that the hall can be brought back to its former glory and continue to serve the people of the area well into the next century.
Today’s climb has raised almost €4,700 of the €5,000 target to date. To help them reach the top, go to the climb’s idonate page.
