The ESB has confirmed repairs will be completed this afternoon after a transformer went on fire in Donegal town last night.

The first fire broke out in the Mullins area, impacting on residents in Marion Villas.

Local Garda were also in attendance and the road closed for a time.

An ESB spokesperson told Donegal Daily that only a ‘small pocket’ of customers were affected.

“These types of incidents occur on our infrastructure from time to time and our crews responded immediately to make the network safe and instigate repairs,” they said.

“The disruption was relatively minor and crews are working on repairing the infrastructure today. As the number of customers impacted is below ten, it doesn’t appear on the PowerCheck site; the repairs will be completed this afternoon. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

The spokesperson did not have details for a similar incident which occurred in the Castlefin area.
