A mystery buyer has paid almost a cool €1M for a Donegal farm to make sure it is returned to nature.
The farm at Grange on Inch Island had an asking price of €850,000.
But it is understood the buyer exceeded the asking price for the 116 acre plot with a plan to ensure it remains unfarmed and underdeveloped.
The site is comprised mainly of hilly ground but offers stunning views overlooking Lough Swilly.
Local auctioneer Dara Furey told the Farmer’s Journal that he was not in a position to say who purchased the land.
But Mr Furey did confirm did confirm there were no plans to farm the large site.
He did admit the buyer was a “wealthy individual” from the Republic of Ireland.
He added that the farm had not been worked for some years apart from some sheep grazing.
It had attracted some other local interest.
