A young boy has penned a heartbreaking letter to a Donegal charity after they helped him and his family get over Christmas.
The Donegal Rape Crisis Centre posted some details of the letter they received from the boy on January 9th wishing them a Happy New Year.
The letter gives a snapshot of the hardship facing many families throughout the country at this time.
In the letter, the boy, who asks not to be named, reveals how many of his family’s possessions were destroyed.
He also reveals how his mother went without food so she could look after her children.
In the heart-wrenching note, the boy reveals how they are now a happy family despite all they have faced over Christmas.
He wrote “We lost a lot of items in our old flat due to mould. My old bed and other things were all destroyed.
“Mummy is trying her best to make sure we have a clean and healthy environment. You have helped my family a lot through the last couple of months.
“Mum has gone without any money to make sure we have a home and food in our presses.
“Please tell everyone how grateful we are for your help. Thank you for helping my mum with everything and thank you for making us a happy family.”
A spokesperson for the Donegal Rape Crisis Centre said they wanted to reveal the letter so the local community could see how much they helped the family.
The spokesperson said “Dear all, just wanted to share this beautiful letter from client’s son, the thanks is not due to me or my wonderful team but to you our community who have responded and wrapped your arms around a vulnerable family
“No words are enough but this wonderful young man speaks better than I ever could.”
