LYIT students have to wait until next week to learn when and how their winter exams will take place.
The college had deferred all in-person exams due to begin this week, but students were left with serious concerns last night when it emerged that management had no plans to move exams online.
Instead, students were given two options – to sit the exams in person in 10 days’ time, or to sit both semester one and semester two exams in May.
LYIT Students’ Union is campaigning for online exams and more continuous assessment. Student representatives met with college senior management today to bring forward students’ concerns about the risks of in-person exams.
A resolution has yet to be found, but it is hoped that it will be a postive outcome.
A joint statement from LYIT Management and Students’ Union was issued this evening, saying: “Discussions between Institute management and Students’ Union representatives continued over the course of today (Friday 7 January) on plans for rescheduling of winter semester assessment. Both parties are optimistic that discussions will come to a satisfactory conclusion early next week, at which point a further update will be issued.”
