Major improvements are on the way for Buncrana shore front and town centre under a €1.17 funding package announced today.
The goverment has allocated €1.17 RRDF million towards the €1.46 million ‘Repowering Buncrana’ project.
This paves the way for works to strengthen the shore front, enhance walking and cycling in the town, provide quality shore front amenities and overall plan to transform the Buncrana town centre.
The landmark regeneration project aims to transform the centre of Buncrana and enable the town to be a vibrant, liveable, diverse and competitive centre of scale.
Donegal Minister McConalogue welcomed the funding today and said: “This funding towards Buncrana is tremendous and will help to rejuvenate the Buncrana town centre and shore front. It is further investment in our rural communities and will help to future proof our beautiful towns like Buncrana. I thank the team behind the project and Cllr Rena Donaghey for their work on the project.”
The North West Bioeconomy Hub will also receive €196k to complete a project costing €245k. The project in Cill Ulta, Fál Carrach, will develop plans for the Northwest Bioeconomy Hub that will provide state of the art facilities and create sustainable employment opportunities in the bioeconomy sectors. It will include enterprise units, hot desk facilities, education and meeting facilities and will facilitate a member’s hub, bioeconomy corridor and cross border engagement.
Joe McHugh, TD for Donegal, “ I am pleased to see that Donegal is set to receive funding of over €1.3M for two projects, in Buncrana and Cill Ulta, to help increase the vibrancy and attractiveness of our towns and villages across Rural Ireland.
“I have no doubt, that when complete, these projects will make a huge difference to the people of Inishowen and West Donegal and surrounding areas,” concluded McHugh.
The funding, under the Rural Regeneration Development Fund (RRDF), is being invested in projects that will rejuvenate town centres across Ireland, drive economic growth and footfall, combat dereliction, develop pedestrian zones and outdoor spaces and boost tourism in Rural Ireland.
The funding will bring these projects through the development stage and to the point where they are ready to commence works.
