Some of Donegal’s top trad musicians will ring in the New Year tonight with Fáilte 2022 on TG4.
Starting at 11:30pm, Dáithí Ó Sé and Orla Ní Fhinneadha will have their eyes on the clock as they bring us the finest of Ireland’s musicians and singers to see off 2021.
They will keep us entertained with a lively night of music from Fáilte 2022’s main stage in Meath’s Gaeltacht, Ráth Chairn with tunes from Jiggy, Maighread & Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill with Donal Lunny, The Bonny Men, pipers Éanna Ó Cróinín & Diarmuid Ó hAlmháin.
There will also be An Chéad Ghlúin eile and three generations of local sean-nós dancers, Máirtín Mac Donncha, Catherine Ní Shúilleabháin & Sara Ní Chonaill.
Fáilte 2022 visits some of Ireland’s best loved towns and the musicians in them.
Daithí and Orla, of course, will direct us north to Donegal’s famous Rusty Mackerel bar in the picturesque village of Teelin.
There we’ll meet living legends Jimmy and Peter Campbell and get a taste of the wildness of Donegal music. Fiddlers extraordinaire Tara Conaghan and Clare Friel join us as well as Dermot Byrne and Bríd Harper.
Venture to the iconic Matt Molloy’s in Westport where we’ll meet maestro Kevin Burke and the man of the house, Matt Molloy with Brian McGrath.
Matt’s son Peter Molloy and Dan Delaney also join for a few tunes. Cathy Jordan, Seamie O’Dowd and Rick Epping from The Unwanted get the party well underway and big band, Blás featuring David Doocey, Stephen Doherty, Shane McGowan, Anne Brennan and Kevin Doherty will have us dancing in our seats.
The now traditional New Year’s show on TG4 is back for another year and promises the best of craic and entertainment this New Year’s Eve.
Fáilte 2022 is produced by Aniar for TG4.
