Cara House Coordinator Susan McCauley has retired after 17 years at the heart of the Letterkenny community.
Susan, a dedicated community worker, founded the family resource centre in 2004. Since then, the centre has been a home-from-home for thousands of people of all ages and stages of life.
Susan has been the driving force behind countless projects for adults and children and has always strived for inclusion and accessibility. Her team has helped people find fulfillment in life, often at lonely times, and brings children together for valuable learning experience.
But Susan will never take full credit for the achievements of Cara House. It’s a team effort, she always says, and she continously diverts the spotlight to other staff and volunteers.
Cara House entered a new chapter this year when, after a four-year search, it found a new home behind Charley’s Cafe on the Pearse Road.
This week, on the announcement of her retirement, Susan is full of gratitude. She passes the mantle to experienced team member Martina McGinty.
Susan wrote: “As I retire as coordinator of Cara House, I wish to thank the Letterkenny community for their support of Cara House since 2004. Without this and the hard work of staff – both past and present – and our funders HSE, Tusla, ETB, Leader and Donegal County Council – we would not have been able to progress and fulfil the hopes and dreams of the original committee of three.
“I wish Martina McGinty every success in carrying the project forward into the post pandemic era and hope to visit when the new buildings are completed. I wish everyone a very happy New Year.”
