A local community has been left disgusted after a Christmas lights display in honour of the deceased was attacked overnight.
The local community in Letterkenny put in trojan work to light up the Devlin Way Bridge at Oldtown in recent days.
The lights were due to be officially turned on last night.
They were put up to remember all those who had passed away and could not be officially waked during various lockdowns of the Covid pandemic.
The attacks, which happened at 3.40pm and 6.06pm yesterday (Wed), were all recorded on CCTV cameras.
The footage is now being passed on to Gardai in a bid to identify those behind the sick attack.
Locals hotelier Brian Gallagher said he has been left sickened by the attack the day before Christmas Eve.
Another local man Colm McDaid said “Not alone is this an attack on them it is an attack against the community. Lights put up to remember our dead neighbours and friends, how sick can you stoop.
“These lights are remembrance lights for loved ones no longer here, how do you think those bereaved families feel, I hope you are happy those responsible, as you will now be outcasts in your community.”
Not to be deterred by the vandals, locals will again gather today to fix the lights and make them shine bright again to remember all those who passed over the famous bridge.
