Molly Nulty won the transition final at the 2021 Irish National Short Course Championships in Dublin.
The 17-year-old from Letterkenny-based swimming club Swilly Seals ASC competed in the Championships which were held over three days in the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre from the 16th to the 18th of December.
Competing in 4 events, Molly made the final in all, including a win in the transition final.
Having achieved great success in the Ulster regional Short Course Championships of late, Molly
competed in:
● Women 16 & over – 50m Backstroke
● Women 16 & over – 100m Breaststroke
● Women 16 & over – 100m Backstroke
● Women 16 & over – 50m Freestyle
The Championships consisted of heats in each morning session with finals being held during the evening sessions. Molly was competing among some of Ireland’s finest swimmers, as well as visitors from the UK, Greece and Malta. Qualifying in all four of her events to advance to the finals, she very ably demonstrated the quality that has been typical of her determination and grit.
Not merely content with progressing to each final in her chosen events, the talented athlete also achieved an impressive four Personal Bests (PBs) during the competition. As a parting salutation to the Championships and in her inimitable style, Molly won both the heat and the transition final for the 50m Freestyle while earning her last PB of the event.
As with all of the young athletes who train and compete in the distinctive black and yellow club colours, Swilly Seals ASC have said they are immensely proud of Molly and her richly deserved successes. In this current climate of uncertainty and worry due to the pandemic, Molly offers a welcome distraction as a shining example of the triumph of hard work, determination, and positivity over transient challenges.
The future is very bright for the 5th year student who attends Loreto Secondary School in Letterkenny, as she continues on her upwards trajectory.
A special word of thanks from the club goes to Paddy Bond, A-squad lead coach with Swilly Seals and to Neil Barrett from Fit Hub in Letterkenny. Both of whom have encouraged and supported Molly on her swim journey.
