A Co Donegal man who exposed himself to a female Garda after being arrested has been jailed for three months.

Michael Strain appeared at Letterkenny District Court charged with assault and also exposing himself.

The 33-year-old was arrested after he attacked a man on Main Street in Letterkenny and knocked him unconscious.

He was released but later found by Gardai roaring and shouting in the centre of the town.

Gardai approached Strain, of Ros Suillghe, Oldtown, Letterkenny but he became aggressive.

He shouted at Gardai “What the f*** do you want now? It’s your fault I was arrested last night.”

He was arrested again and taken to Letterkenny Garda station on November 15th last.

While in the station, Strain pulled down his trousers, flashed at a female Garda and then made a sexually derogative remark.

Judge Raymond Finnegan told Strain’s solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher that his client had “A steep hill to climb.”

Mr Gallagher said Strain thought the man he had assaulted and given a black eye to was about to lunge at him and hit out.

He added that his client suffered a number of problems in his life and apologised for exposing himself.

However, he said he had spent a week in prison and was a different man who came before the court.

Judge Finnegan said the exposure charge was significant.

He added “This officer had more t be doing than getting herself exposed to.”

He jailed Strain for three months.

Strain, whose mother was in the court, then attempted to hit a prison officer as he was being led out of the court and began shouting again.
