Saturday 20th November 2021
Glencar Inn Saturday Division One
Arranmore United 2 v 2 Strand Rovers
Arranmore welcomed Strand Rovers to the Island for their latest League Game. The 1st half saw plenty of
action as both teams jostled for possession. In the 9th minute Strand went ahead as the ball came in from
a cross to find the head of a Strand player. In the 12th minute Strand doubled their lead, a free kick was
parried away by Ben Boyle but fell to a Strand player who found the net. Paul Early then pulled a goal back
for United before the break. Five minutes into the second half he got his and Arranmore’s second to tie the
scores at 2-2. That’s how it ended as neither team could add to their tallies.
Cappry Rovers Reserves 2 v 1 Milford United Reserves
Milford started the game well and had an early chance cleared off the line by a Cappry defender. Cappry
came into the game and Ronan Carlin forced the Milford keeper into a great reaction save. Cappry pressed
and came close again when Jack Long’s effort came off the bar. A few minutes later John Callan saw his
shot come off the post. Milford came out strong in the 2nd half and pressed early on and almost got their
reward when they hit the crossbar. Milford did get their deserved goal when Lee Burke finished at the back
post. Cappry responded well to going behind and got level when Ronan Carlin finished off a Dàire Mc
Cafferty cross. Cappry got the winner the when Jack Long raced onto long ball and finished well. Two team
Performances. Referee: Gerard Divine
Glencar Celtic 3 v 0 Kildrum Tigers Reserves
Glencar hosted Kildrum at the Flag Pole Field and to begin a minute’s silence was observed for the late
Sammy Malseed father of Noel Malseed ex manager and player for Glencar. Glencar started on the front
foot right from the off and created a chance from the kick off but shot narrowly wide. They continued to
create chances and Pajo Rafferty opened the scoring after a good through ball from Odhran Grant. Pajo
doubled Glencar’s lead shortly after when Jordan Ryan was upended in the box. Kildrum’s keeper guessed
right and got fingertips to the penalty but couldn’t keep it out. Kildrum were then reduced to ten men. The
game went somewhat flat after the sending off. Pajo killed off the game as a contest just before half time
completing his hat-trick after a looped cross from Paddy Collins found it’s way to Pajo to tap in. Kildrum got
a better foothold in the game in the second half but couldn’t break the Glencar defence. Glencar had a few
good chances through Pajo and Paddy Collins with Ciaran Maloney coming very close from the edge of the
box but couldn’t beat the Kildrum keeper in the second half who made a great double save late on.
Glenea United Reserves 4 v 5 Keadue Rovers Reserves
In wintry conditions Keadue came out on top in this Gaeltacht derby. Playing with the aid of the breeze it
was the away side that settled quickest and almost took the lead on 8 minutes when, after a good run from
Brendan Mc Cafferty, his effort was saved by Thomas Ferry and the resultant rebound was blocked on the
line by Neil Mc Geever. As the half progressed the home team came more into the game with Luke Mc
Carry and Calvin Murray going close to opening the scoring. Keadue took the lead on 30 minutes when the
Glenea defence failed to deal with a long ball and Luke Neely picked up the loose ball and fired home from
20 yards. Keadue extended their lead on the stroke of halftime when Luke Neely headed home from a
corner. In the 2 nd half Glenea got immediately back into the game when straight from the kick-off Michael
Ferry saw his shot saved but Keenan Gallagher was on hand to stab home the rebound. However, Keadue
regained their two-goal lead on 55 minutes when Jack Ward flicked home a corner at the near post.
Keadue pushed to extend their lead but it was the home side that pulled a goal back on 63 minutes when
the Keadue defence failed to deal with a Cathal Mc Geever free-kick and Keenan Gallagher was on hand to
drill the ball home. Keadue got their 4 th goal on 70 minutes with Luke Neely completing his hat-trick with a
fine curling effort the edge of the box. But once again Glenea pulled another goal back on 80 minutes
when a cross from the right found Neil Mc Geever who saw his initial effort hit the post but he converted
the rebound. Glenea pushed hard for an equaliser but were caught out on 85 minutes when Luke Neely got
free down the right and his curling effort found the bottom corner. Best for Glenea were Aaron Bowyer
and Keenan Gallagher, while Jack Boyle, Ethan Mc Cafferty and Luke Neely were best for Keadue. Referee:
Sean ferry.
Oldtown Celtic 5 v 2 Donegal Town Reserves
The game started brightly with Donegal Town spurning two good chances by firing wide early on. It was nip
and tuck for the next 20 minutes before the game came to life. A crazy 10-minute period defined the
outcome of the game. Oldtown took the lead from a Gio Peoples penalty and Joe Mc Carron quickly added
a second. Luke Friel fired home a third from distance before Tommy Mc Laughlin headed home a fourth to
put the home side into a commanding lead. It remained 4-0 until the break. Donegal Town came out in the
second half to get back into the game and got one back when James Byrne headed home from a corner.
They pushed to get another but found Gibson in the Oldtown goal in fine form. Sean Cleary added a 5th for
Oldtown to take the sting out of Donegal Town who added a 2nd late on from Tom Cutts. Team
performances from both sides in what was a great game of football.
Old Orchard Saturday Division Two
Ballybofey United Reserves 2 v 2 Drumbar F.C.
A very understrength Ballybofey side played host to Drumbar on Saturday afternoon. Injuries and other
commitments meant they had no recognised goalkeeper available so Karlos Reukl stepped between the
posts for the encounter and deserved great credit for his sportsmanship and performance. Drumbar took
the lead in the first half but Ballybofey got level through Noah Reid. The club’s underage player continues
to improve and has made the step up to senior football look easy. Ballybofey then took a second-half lead
when two half-time substitutions combined. Colin Kearns crossed to the penalty area where Johnny Bell
was well placed to head home. Drumbar got an equaliser and the game ended in a draw. Well done to
both teams who did well, both sides with several young players in their ranks.
Castlefin Celtic Reserves 1 v 1 Cranford United Reserves
Castlefin and Cranford had to settle for the share of the spoils after an evenly contested game at Park
View. The first half had few clear cut chances with Cranford having the better of the opportunities. In the
55th minute the visitors took the lead when Ben Fox nipped in between two defenders to poke home.
Castlefin responded, Travis Lafferty and Nicky Scott both going close. In the 75th Castlefin got rewarded for
all their pressure, a Mark Hegarty through ball found Lafferty who made no mistake from 12 yards.
Gweedore Celtic Reserves 6 v 1 Swilly Rovers Reserves
(No Report Submitted)
Ramelton Mariners 2 v 2 Dunlewey Celtic
This game started at a frantic pace with Dunlewey piling huge pressure on the Mariners’ goal in the early
stages, but it was the Mariners who took the lead on the 7 th minute when, after heavy pressure from Oran
Dunworth, the ball ended up at the feet of Ricky Fisher. He fed brother Shane who found the postage
stamp from a 20-yard shot which left the Dunlewey keeper with no chance. The game settled after this for
the remainder of the half with not much being created until the end of the half brought a rare opportunity.
After fantastic work, again by Dunworth in the middle, he found David Fisher with a neat through ball but
the Dunlewey keeper made a great save to keep the score at 1-0 at the break. The second half saw all the
action as the Mariners set out their stall early. This time Shane Fisher found Ricky Fisher who’s curling shot
went narrowly wide. Both sides had great chances but with a mixture of poor finishing and some great
goalkeeping it seemed like the game was going to filter out. The final five minutes told a different story.
Dunlewey found an equaliser from a free kick, Brendan Mc Geady calmly finished into the roof of the net.
Mariners got a corner from the kick-off and scored directly with Shane Fisher somehow finding the top
corner from the corner flag. This wasn’t to be the end as Dunlewey kept battling and were awarded a
penalty when the forward found himself one on one with keeper Dunworth who bundled the forward
over. Keith Sweeney stepped up and found the net to leave the scores level. Both teams had excellent
team displays with Dane Dunworth and Kyle Burke standing out the hosts.
St. Catherines Reserves 5 v 2 Drumoghill F.C. Reserves
It was a case of the Murrin Brothers Show at Emerald Park on Saturday as St. Catherines Reserves defeated
Drumoghill Reserves. The younger sibling, Darragh, showed blistering speed as he exploited the space
behind the Drumoghill defence to find the net on three occasions, his fourth strike coming from a well-
placed free-kick. Paul got the other goal on a good day for the Killybeg’s men.

Brian Mc Cormick Sports Premier Division
Bonagee United 4 v 1 Castlefin Celtic
Bonagee took all three points at Dry Arch Park against Castlefin Celtic. The game began on a lively footing
with the home team in particular creating some good chances. Evan Mc Croary had a shot from about 20
yards in the 4 th minute but it was saved by Lee White in the Castlefin goal. Aaron Wasson who was sprightly
throughout for Bonagee had a great chance on seven minutes to open the scoring when he was straight
through but Aaron O’Hagan got a great foot in and the ball went over the bar.
On 13 minutes Castlefin themselves had a great chance when Matt O’Rourke got his head to an incoming
ball but the Bonagee Keeper Cian Harkin made a good save. Castlefin were now upping the tempo and on
22 minutes got their reward. There was a scramble in the Bonagee box to clear the ball from a corner but
Aaron O’Hagan got his knee to it and it went in past Harkin to put Castlefin one up. Evan Mc Croary again
had another great effort on 38 minutes but it just went over the crossbar. Bonagee levelled the game on
42 minutes when Aaron Wasson came running into the box from the left-hand side but was brought down
and a penalty was awarded. Lee Mc Monagle stepped up and coolly slotted into the bottom right hand
corner. Lee Mc Monagle should have put Bonagee into the lead before the break when he got his head to a
ball from an Eamonn Cannon free kick but steered it wide.
Both teams had chances at the start of the second half with Aaron Wasson taking a great ball from a Lee
Mc Monagle cross but put it wide. Castlefin’s Emmett White had the chance when he got his head on a
great cross on 52 minutes but it just went over the bar. Wasson for Bonagee was at it again 2 minutes later
but once again to no avail.
The dynamic of the game changed on 65 minutes when Castlefin were reduced to ten men. Eamonn
Cannon played a great ball from the home side of the half way line into open space on the right and the
lively Aaron Wasson came running on to it with just the defender to beat but was fouled. The Referee
Richard Storey had no hesitation in sending the Castlefin defender off. Subsequently, Castlefin regrouped
very quickly and Ian Ward came running through with just the Bonagee keeper to beat but Harkin came
running out and made a great save to prevent the goal.
Eamonn Cannon on 75 minutes had a great pop at goal with White making a great save. The goal of the
game came on 77 minutes when Bonagee’s Ryan Mc Gavigan hit a screamer from about 30 yards finding
the top right hand corner. Bonagee started to take advantage of the extra man and on 82 minutes Lee Mc
Monagle found space and had the composure to finish well. He had an identical chance three minutes later
but put it wide. Aaron Wasson then sealed the deal for Bonagee and got his just rewards on 86 minutes to
make it four. Castlefin were then reduced to nine men as the game just fizzled out.
Referee: Richard Storey.
Cappry Rovers 0 v 1 Donegal Town
Donegal Town made the ideal start to the game and went 1-0 through Ronan Mc Hugh who fired into the
bottom corner from 20 yards. Cappry came into the game as it wore on and Dean O’ Donnell brought a
good save from the Donegal keeper. Donegal were always dangerous on the break. Cappry started the
second half well and pressed Donegal back and could have got level when Aaron Kelly was played through
by Paddy Mc Nulty but again the Donegal keeper made a fine save. Cappry again went close through Paddy
Mc Nulty but failed to convert. Donegal Town could have doubled their lead when Joe Mc Intyre brought a
good save from Joe Boyle. Cappry had a chance to level at the end but failed to convert it. Referee: Allister
Gourley.
Drumkeen United 0 v 5 Kildrum Tigers
In this game played in perfect conditions at St. Patricks Park the visitors left with all three points
after a convincing win against an under-strength home side. The visitors took the lead on 30
minutes when Kevin McHugh broke through a finished well at the near post. The home team
defended well and where unlucky to go in two nil down at the break when the visitors scored on
the stroke off half-time when Ethan Coll tucked home the rebound after Luke Mc Gee made an
excellent save from Mc Hugh. The second goal really knocked the stuffing out of the home team
and they were under pressure for most of the second half. The visitors made it three on 60
minutes when Coll got his second when he finished well after a good cross. It was o-4 five minutes
later when Aaron O' Donnell finished well. The scoring was completed on 80 minutes when sub
Brian Breslin scored the goal of the game when he latched onto a long ball and fired an excellent
shot across the keeper and into the far top corner.
Glenea United 3 v 1 Convoy Arsenal
Glenea picked up all three points at Glasserchoo today with a vital win over Convoy. The home side found
themselves one up after 12 minutes, Darren Mc Geever with a strong run into the box setting up Carlos O’
Reilly, his effort low to the corner of the net. Within two minutes Convoy were on the attack, Darren
Harvey created space for himself in the Glenea box but Joe Coll was quick to smother the danger. Convoy
were back on level terms in the 28th minute, Eunan Kelly finding JP Malley at the back post and striking
well past Coll. Glenea took the lead again in the 42nd minute, Mc Geever again the creator with a powerful
run into the box and setting up John Mc Fadden to tap in from 3 yards. Within a couple of minutes after
the restart it was the home side that struck again, Mc Geever with his 3rd assist of the day, this time
setting up Lee O’ Brien to slip the ball past Matthew Gallagher from a tight angle. Both teams had several
chances in the last half hour, O Reilly and Shaun Mc Bride going close for Glenea, while Kelly and Malley
had good efforts for Convoy. Best for Glenea was Darren Mc Geever and Shaun Mc Bride, team effort from
Convoy.
Kilmacrennan Celtic 2 v 0 Keadue Rovers
Kilmacrennan were on the back foot against a youthful Keadue side who failed to take their chances when
they came. Kilmacrennan took the lead however through a set piece routine which left Cian Mc Menamin
free for a great team goal. Keadue played very well but failed to create any chances against a well
organised Kilmacrennan side. A James Doherty strike from 25 yards out sealed the game for Kilmacrennan.
Man of the Match: Cian Mc Menamin
Temple Domestic Appliances Division One
Cranford United 1 v 2 Fanad United
Fanad left Cranford Park with all three points after a tight battle. Both sides cancelled each other out for
most the half but it was Fanad who took the lead after the ball was headed out from a corner a speculative
shot from the Fanad midfielder trickled into the bottom corner. Fanad started the second half the better
and went two up after a hour when Eddie O’Reilly finished from close range. Cranford tried their best to get back into it and got a goal back with a Dale Mc Fadden corner that went straight into the net. Cranford
pushed hard looking for an equaliser but the Fanad defence stood strong.
Drumoghill F.C. 2 v 1 Rathmullan Celtic
Drumoghill secured another three points thanks to a performance that was based on resolve and
determination. They were second best for much of the game but still managed to take their chances when
they got them and deserved a victory that was based on defensive solidity all over the pitch.
After a goalless first half, the game sparked into life on 65 minutes when Conor Temple broke the deadlock
with a terrific effort from the edge of the box. There appeared little danger when the winger gained
possession on the left-hand side of the penalty area, and he sidestepped the challenges of Alan Boal and
James Gallagher before firing home from the right-hand side of the penalty area to put his side into the
lead. Rathmullan though had an immediate chance to restore parity when they were awarded a penalty
after Kevin Doran was upended in the box. However, Dara Patton, normally clinical from the 12-yard spot,
saw his effort saved by Ryan Lockhart with a tremendous save low to his right. The seasiders had their
frustration compounded when they were made to pay for the miss only three minutes later as Liam O’
Donnell fired him from a narrow angle after Shaun Gallagher had saved his initial attempt. Rathmullan
though were not going to go down without a fight and Patton managed to redeem himself on 81 minutes
when his effort spun off a Drumoghill defender to leave Lockhart helpless and reduce the arrears. It was an
all-out onslaught for the remaining 10 minutes with Chris O’Donnell, Gareth Temple and Dylan Mc Elhinney
outstanding at ensuring the reds held out. That said, Rathmullan did have one glorious chance to equalise,
and it was that man Patton again whose header from David Edward’s cross somehow went the wrong side
of the post to have the visitors what they would have considered a deserved point. Drumoghill held out
and they will consider this a deserved win for the heart and desire that was displayed on the day.
Raphoe Town 3 v 2 Gweedore Celtic
Raphoe started the brighter a had a couple of half chances but Gweedore Celtic took the lead after 25
minutes after a mix up in Raphoe defence allowed Gweedore midfielder to finish well from long range.
Raphoe started the 2nd half the brighter again and got a deserved equaliser early in half with Conor Friel
scoring in of the post after being put through by a good ball from Stephen Craig. Gweedore then got a
penalty after ball struck a Raphoe defender's hand from very close range. Tommy Diver scored from the
spot. Raphoe kept going and equalised again after a great cut back from Conor Friel and DJ Kelly tapped in
at back post. The game swung from end to end in the final 20 minutes with good chances for both teams
but Keelin Bogle popped up with a looping header in the final minutes after great delivery from Scott
Devenney to win the game for Raphoe.
St. Catherines 2 v 2 Kerrykeel ’71 F.C.
The home side shaded the opportunities in the first half with Daniel Breslin and Josh Maxwell both coming
close to opening the scoring but couldn’t keep their efforts on target. A breakthrough did come on 39
minutes after a sweeping move down the right Colin Mooney found Breslin free in the box and he
intelligently, with his back to goal, laid the ball off to Ryan Cunningham who in turn found the top corner
from 18 yards. The second half was very keenly contested by both teams and Kerrykeel started to
find themselves in the opposing box more frequently and got their reward with a penalty kick as the home
keeper was adjudged to have tripped the Kerrykeel forward on 60minutes. Paddy Carr calmly slotted home
to level the scores. St. Catherines increased the intensity in search of second goal and this dually arrived on
75 minutes when a long clearance fell over the Kerrykeel defence and the speedy Ryan Cunningham made
no mistake when one on one with the away keeper for 2- . Kerrykeel kept pressing believing they could
snatch a late equaliser and were awarded a second penalty by referee Gerard Devine on 88 minutes.
Paddy Carr again needed no second invitation and rammed his spot kick down the middle for 2-2.
Christopher Murrin had an excellent game for the Saints at Centre half and will feel hard done by that his
team didn’t come away with three points.
Donegal Physiotherapy & Performance Centre Division Two
Dunkineely Celtic 0 v 4 Lagan Harps
The game kicked off in ideal conditions at Darney Park and it was Lagan Harps who took an early lead when
Emmet Tourish put the visitors ahead from two yards after a mix up in the Dunkineely Celtic box.
Dunkineely composed themselves and created chances, however it was Lagan who extended their lead
after 25 minutes with a fine strike from 25 yards by Josh Hay which left the Dunkineely keeper with no
chance. Four minutes later the Lagan keeper pulled off a double save firstly from Luke Gallagher at short
range and moments later he got well down to his right to smother the follow up from Matthew Huntley.
Both teams had chances before half-time but the scoreline remained unchanged. The 2nd half started
brightly with both teams creating chances but as time went on it was Lagan who began to dominate and
they were rewarded with a third goal on 77 minutes when Damien Nelis headed in at the back post from a
cross. Dunkineely broke away shortly after the restart but the Lagan keeper was quick off his line to save at
the feet of Luke Gallagher. Lagan were awarded a penalty in injury time which was converted from the
spot and they took away three well deserved points from Darney Park.
Glenree United 2 v 1 Whitestrand United
Glenree were playing into the wind in the first half and struggled in the opening five or ten minutes to get a
handle on the game with several passes going astray but they quickly rectified this and grew into the
match. Liam Mc Bride was working well in the middle of the park with Eoghan Kelly and Jamie Hunter
grinding hard with him. The midfield gave Glenree a solid base to work from and the defence were always
confident playing the ball on the ground, Stephen Doak and Ruairi Friel doing very well to marshal inform
striker Jordan Nugent. The game was back and forth from a chance’s perspective, Daire Shields was a
constant threat in behind and could have had more than one in the first half. The interval was inching
closer when Oran Blaney pulled off a fantastic save from close range. Glenree scored almost immediately
after, Blaney’s kick out taken down well by James Tourish, the ball was laid back to Liam Mc Bride who
slotted Daire Shields in behind. Daire made absolutely no mistake slotting into the far corner. 1-0 at half
time. Glenree came back out with a hunger and went close on multiple times in the second half whilst also
dominating the game. Young Ryan Moffitt doing well at full back to stop several counter attacks and linking
up well with Daniel Doak. Sean Martin his equal on the left. The game was in the melting pot when Liam
Mc Bride swung a wonderful ball to the edge of the six-yard box. James Tourish took the ball on his chest,
and slotted into the corner. 2-0 in the 85th minute. Glenree then decided to see the game out.
Whitestrand did however grab a consolation with practically the last kick off the game, young Gareth Ferry
with a good finish.
Letterbarrow Celtic 4 v 1 Curragh Athletic
A game played in perfect weather conditions saw the home side come out as victors on a score-line of 4 – 1. A
tightly contested first half saw few chances for either side until Letterbarrow broke the deadlock on 40 minutes
when Dan Meehan put a fine curling effort past the Curragh keeper from the edge of the box. The home side
snatched a second on the stroke of half time when Martin Breslin tapped home from close range after Gerard
Mc Brearty broke clear of the defence to square the ball for Breslin. Letterbarrow got off to a flying start to the
second half when Dan Meehan got his second when he powered home from distance after a fine turn just
outside the box. However, the visitors pulled a goal back on 55 minutes after a scramble in the box following a
corner. Curragh pushed hard for a second and Cathal Charlton made a couple of fine saves for Letterbarrow.
However, Gerard Mc Brearty made the game safe for the home side on 80 minutes when he poked home from
a corner. Michael Coughlan and Dan Meehan were best for Letterbarrow.
