One of Donegal’s most famous restaurants, The Harbour Restaurant & Bar, has officially changed hands.
The Kennedy family from Donegal Town have been renting the premises for the past five years. This month they’ve made it official with the purchase of the building.
Paul and Mary Kennedy and their children Leanne, Seán and Emma have shared their delight with the exciting new step.
The Kennedys have thanked former landlords, Brian and Margaret Neilan, for their support during their tenure.
“It’s been quite a journey over the past 5 years and we are thrilled and filled with huge pride to now call the premises our own after investing a lot of time, effort and putting our own stamp on the premises in our tenure so far,” the Kennedys told customers on social media.
“The Neilan family are leaving behind quite a legacy but one which will always live on here.”
The Harbour began as a takeaway called Southern Dixie in 1984, run by by Brian and Margaret Neilan, which was soon transformed into a quality restaurant.
The Harbour quickly became renowned for quality food and service and became a hotspot in town which gave many employment opportunities in the 90’s.
Jo Daly and Debbie O’Reilly then took over the helm in 2001 and maintained the great reputation and high standards of hospitality in the Harbour for 15 years. Jo and Debbie have since built their own unique restaurant just up the street called Quay West Restaurant.
On the momentous sale, the Kennedys issued a massive thanks to all their staff past and present for all their hard work and commitment.
“Everyone knows it takes a great team of staff to help a business strive and succeed. We’ve always been extremely lucky and privileged to have a great, hard working, committed, fun and friendly team which has provided us with a great foundation here.
“The consistent reviews we receive about our staff on our Tripadvisor platform and elsewhere is testament to this. We really appreciate and thank you for all your hard work and dedication to your role and helping to provide a quality hospitality to all our clientele.
“Lastly, thanks to everyone who has supported us during the 5 years. From our regulars always calling in for a bite to eat to anyone that organised and trusted us to host a special occasion, thank you so much and we take great pride in looking after everyone and making sure we provide a quality hospitality experience. We really value some of the friendships and connections we’ve developed during our time so far.
“We are looking forward to maintaining the hospitality standards the Harbour is renowned for in the years to come.”
