Speculation is mounting that Jim McGuinness could be part of a management takeover with the Down senior team.
The new team is understood to be led by Conor Laverty with both the Glenties man and Marty Clarke part of the backroom team.
The Irish News is reporting that the team will replace Paddy Tally after initially being lined up to take over at Down’s U20 set-up.
If it comes to pass it will be McGuinness’ first involvement at county level since leaving Donegal in 2014 after leading them to All Ireland success in 2012.
McGuinness is currently working with Derry City’s U19 team having spent time with Celtic FC and then abroad as he attempted to launch a soccer coaching career.
He has been linked with a number of high profile GAA and soccer positions in recent months including Dundalk FC.
