Week 2 of the Owen McDaid Winter League Qualifying took place at the weekend and the foursomes format
really did put it up to all the pairings.
With the tougher weather conditions on Saturday, pairings really did struggle with the format, but with the milder Sunday weather some pairings came to the fore.
Weekly top scorers Hugh Doherty Clarke (9) & partner Tony McSherry (29) took full advantage of the format and gelled together excellently to return a magnificent 45 points, which was way ahead of the vast majority of the field and ahead of their nearest rivals Paul Eccles & Kevin McDermott, Mickey McHugh & Stephen King, and Damien
Doherty & Jonny Morrison who all returned a fantastic score of 42 points, to keep them all in the
mix on the leaderboard.
There will be NO Winter League next weekend and it will return the following weekend on the 30th and 31st October and the format that weekend will be aggregate Scores (both scores to count at all
holes).
There are still 3 more rounds of qualifying in the winter league and still time for any
pairings to enter as there are plenty of opportunities to make up the first 2 weeks, especially as
there’s only 4 scores to count this year.
