Donegal GAA club’s unique fundraiser is really taking off!

Leading Donegal GAA club Na Rossa have come up with a novel way to fundraise for the next stage of their development.

The Leitir club has already seen the completion of their terrific new pitch at Madavagh Park under the pitch committee led by Michael Duddy and Kevin McCready.

But never a club to literally allow grass to grow under their feet, the club are now pressing ahead with work on the new dressing rooms.

Planning permission has already been granted and the club were left with the task of raising €300,000 needed to make the next stage of their dream a reality.

But the concept to raise the much-needed cash literally came out of the sky!

Club officials Felix and Conal Melly suggested the concept of dropping footballs from a helicopter.

People bought squares on the pitch for €50 each and if a football landed on your square then you would receive a massive cash prize.

Since that meeting in January the club has pressed ahead with this novel fundraising event which is different than any other.

The Na Rossa club has a team of sellers based all over the world selling the €50 helicopter drop tickets including former players, clubmen and women and supporters.

The drop itself is very simple.

The pitch will be divided into 3168 two by two metre squares. Each square will represent a ticket number and when all tickets are sold a computerised randomising progamme will attach a number to a square.

A total of 8 footballs will be dropped from a helicopter from different entry angles onto the pitch.

If the ball lands on your square you are a big money prize winner with the total cash windfall on offer amounting to a whopping €32,000.

This includes two €10,000 prizes and six €2,000 prizes.

Sales of the squares are literally flying out the door so people are advised to get their hands on a square (or two!) as quick as they can.

The drop takes place the weekend of the 23rd October and tickets priced at €50 can be bought from our online platform go.rallyup.com/narossadrop or from shops locally and through any committee member.
