The aerial picture shows a small stream flowing into the sea at Marble Hill.
The photo beat hundreds of other images from around the world to win the category and put Donegal firmly on the map.
Photographers of all levels from across the UK and Ireland were able to enter the competition, which seeks to highlight the best in travel photography.
Sharing on Instagram, photographer Ozgun Ozdemir said: “I am delighted to announce that I won the Landscape Category of National Geographic Traveller Photography Competition 2021 with my photograph from Marble Hill, Donegal.”
Describing the photo, he said: “I’d been trying for this shot for months but couldn’t get a calm early morning. On this November day, my friends and I agreed to meet at the beach at sunrise, but after checking the forecast I realised that would mean missing the ideal conditions, so I arrived an hour early to set up. ”
The Turkish native added that it is “like a dream came true”.
