A Donegal Town toy shop proved it had the ‘bottle’ to make a dream come through for an elderly lady.
Frances Brady was left heartbroken recently when a 70 year old toy doll she owns suffered a mishap.
The doll is Frances’ pride and joy and she takes great pleasure in feeding the doll with a baby’s bottle.
Unfortunately, the doll’s bottle was destroyed recently after it was accidentally melted on a stove.
Her family searched all over Scotland where they live for a replacement bottle but could find none which fit!
Frances, who lives in Glasgow, remembered she got the bottle in a little toy shop in Ireland more than 25 year years ago.
Frances had been on a bus tour in Donegal and as well as buying the doll’s bottle, she took a paper flyer from Proper Price Toymaster.
She managed to find the flyer and decided the only thing to do was to travel to Donegal with her family to find a replacement bottle.
Deirdre Charles, who has run the Proper Price Toymaster store with husband Ray for the past 36 years, said they were flabbergasted when they heard Frances’ request.
She said “I knew we had plenty of doll’s bottles but I wasn’t sure if we had the right one to fit.
“It was unbelievable how Frances and her family travelled all the way from Scotland just to get a replacement bottle. Talk about pressure.
“In the end we were just so delighted we could help, Frances and find the right size for her.”
Deirdre revealed how Frances even did a little jig of joy when the bottle fit the doll’s mouth.
She even joked how the doll hadn’t been fed for four months!
“It was a very special moment and we were just so delighted we could help. It was one of our more unusual requests.
“Having a toy shop for us is a little bit more than a business, it is our lives and so our son Enda is working in the shop with us.
“These are the special times that make it all worthwhile,” added Deirdre.
