A MAN facing three drug-related charges has been fined in court.
Steven Deduytsche (23) of Long Lane, Letterkenny, was before Letterkenny District Court on three separate charges of possession of cannabis.
The court heard that Deduytsche was evasive to Gardai, who were on mobile patrol on Main Street, Letterkenny, at 1am on February 9, 2020.
Deduytsche was searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act and €25 worth of cannabis was located on his person. Deduytsche told Gardaí that the cannabis was for his own use.
On April 17 2020, Deduytsche was found in possession of €160 of cannabis at his home address and again made admissions.
On August 30, 2020, Deduytsche was found in possession of €5 with of cannabis at Pearse Road, Letterkenny.
Solicitor for Deduytsche, Mr Ciaran Haran, said his client was a father of two young children and a full-time painter.
“All three incidents were minor and small in nature,” Mr Haran said. “He gets back migraines and this is his way of treating them. Over the counter medication may be more appropriate.”
Judge Raymond Finnegan fined Deduytsche €250.
