A Donegal woman is about to embark on an inspirational challenge for a charity that is literally very close to her heart.
Jude Bromley from Raphoe is a very caring person who has been helping others for years.
She is a veterinary nurse, now based in Convoy. For her 43rd birthday this month she will walk 100 miles (by herself) in 7 days over 4 counties for CRY Ireland (Cardiac Risk in Young). Visit her donation page at: https://www.facebook.com/donate/1067909477280557/
Jude and her sister both got life-saving support from CRY Ireland after being diagnosed with a genetic heart disorder a number of years ago.
Now, Jude is celebrating her 43rd birthday by fundraising to give back to the charity. Starting on Friday 24th September, she will undertake a solo walk along the Royal Canal Greenway from Maynooth to Longford and part of the National Famine Way, with just a backpack for company. Every step of her journey will be to raise awareness and support for CRY Ireland.
Jude’s family first learned of CRY Ireland after her sister had a stroke 10 years ago, only to find out it was a genetic condition that caused dilated cardiomyopathy. Two sisters (including Jude) had an ICD ( implantable cardioverter defibrillator) implanted within their chest, correcting any cardiac arrhythmias.
Jude aims to raise €1,000 to raise much-needed funds for CRY and to make people aware of cardiac risk in young people. Most of the funds raised at CRY go towards supporting the free screening service at Tallaght, Dublin 24. Families from all over Ireland come to the centre for screening. Jude is well known in her community for supporting others. She founded the Donegal Fibromyalgia Support Group in 2010, but stepped down after her heart disorder diagnosis. Jude also part of the Finn Valley Community Health Forum, where she most recently took part in arranging Care Packs for members of the older community.
As she trains for her trek, Jude is already receiving generous donations and kind sponsorship from local businesses. To donate online, visit: https://www.facebook.com/donate/1067909477280557/
Collection boxes and sponsorship forms are located in selected stores in the Finn Valley area. Find out more at Jude’s event page: https://www.facebook.com/donate/1067909477280557/
