Three Donegal natives are set to feature in a new TV series about weight loss and healthy lifestyles.
Hannah Ní Dhubhcháin, Bríd Nic Suibhne and Proinsias Ó Raghallaí are among the seven personalities to star in ‘Na Slimmers’, which begins on TG4 tonight at 8.30pm.
The series follows men and women from the four corners of Ireland who are on personal weight loss journeys for a variety of reasons.
Hannah Ní Dhubhcháin, aged 28, is maid of honour at her cousin’s wedding and wants to make sure she feels comfortable in the dress – she’s currently a size 16 but she wants to fit into the size 12 dress that’s already bought.
Gaoth Dobhair woman Bríd Nic Suibhne was proudly crowned ‘Slimmer of the Year’ with her local Slimming World group a few years ago but due to health reasons she has put all her weight back on. Nonetheless, Bríd has found her mojo again and is aiming to become ‘Slimmer of the Year’ for a second time.
Donegal man Proinsias Ó Raghallaí needs to lose his weight for health reasons. Only just turned 50, Proinsias spent 30 years in New York where he worked long hours on his feet in the bar trade. He now struggles to walk on his own and relies on crutches. He desperately needs to get on the list for hip replacement surgery – but first he needs to lose 3 stone. It’s a hard task for Proinsias as he can’t properly exercise but he’s determined he’ll find a way through his Catch 22 situation.
The ‘slimmers’ will be sharing the ins and outs of their health journeys across four episodes. They will be letting cameras into their homes, their minds and their fridges as they face into their new lifestyle choices. Viewers will see how each deal with adapting to a better lifestyle and the methods they use to achieve their own weight goals.
‘Na Slimmers’ is an Imagine Media Production for TG4 with the support from Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund. The first episode will be broadcast on TG4 on Wednesday 8th September 2021 at 20:30pm.
