IRISH cyclists Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal secured another gold medal at the Paralympics this morning.
Dunlevy, whose father John is from Mountcharles, and McCrystal won the women’s B road race after a super battle with Sweden and Great Britain.
At the Fuji International Speedway, Dunlevy and McCrystal staved off the Swedish pair Louise Jannering and Anna Svaerdstroem and the British pair of Sophie Unwin and Jenny Hill.
This morning’s gold adds to the women’s B time trial gold and the B 3000m silver medal they already won.
Today’s event was held over 92.4km with the Irish pair finishing in 2:35:53.
Dunleavy said: “I’ve always wanted to win that at the Paralympics.
“In London I was fifth in the road race and then I got silver in Rio. To win in Tokyo is a dream come true.
“It was a really challenging race. The Swedish were really technically very good and on the downhills we were losing ground to them. If they went ahead of us, we had to use a lot of effort to get it back.”
