A raffle for a Donegal GAA strip signed by ‘Normal People’ star Paul Mescal has raised more than €1,215 for a community in the south west of the county.
The much needed cash will go towards a fundraising effort to repair a damaged footbridge in Carrick.
The heartthrob was filming in the area earlier this year for A24’s ‘God’s Creatures’ in which he is co-starring with Chernobyl star Emily Watson and Aisling Franciosi from The Fall.
During his stay, he was a regular at the ‘Brew in Thru’ coffee van, which is situated at The Salmon Leap in Teelin and is run by Kilmacrennan woman, Julie Healy.
Before he left, he agreed to sign a Donegal jersey (and a pair of O’Neill’s shorts!) for a raffle to raise money for repairs to a footbridge.
This week, Julie presented a cheque for €1,215 to local community group, Coiste Forbartha na Carraige.
Construction of the replacement steel footbridge is at an advanced stage and should be ready in the coming weeks.
The iconic structure over the Glen River in Carrick suffered significant damage as a result of the extreme rain that accompanied Storm Lorenzo in 2019.
As a result of a funding shortfall, the community group has launched a Summer Draw.
There are almost €2,000 in cash prizes to be won.
